When Jennifer woke up the next morning Alison wasn't in bed with her. Laying there and looking up at the ceiling she remembered the argument they had the night before. Getting out of bed and putting on a pair of Alison's jeans and a t-shirt she found on Alison's floor.

Heading upstairs Jennifer went into the small kitchen. The sink was a double sink with a dishwasher underneath. It had a hard wood floor that always seemed to be polished when she came over to visit. The small round table was only used to play cards at. Alison usually ate in the living room with her family and watched whatever they were when she ate dinner. Looking out the window over the sink she saw that Alison's car was gone.

“I thought that Alison went to go drop you off this morning.” Alison's mother Linda told her, coming into the kitchen and making coffee.

“No, I think that I'm going to have to walk home.” Jennifer muttered, shaking her head.

“Why do you say that? Are you two arguing again?” Linda asked her with a heavy sigh and shaking her own head.

Linda was short with gray hair. She had glasses with pink see through frames. In her flowered bathrobe she watched as the coffee started brewing.

''Kind of.” Jennifer stated but she didn't want to go into detail. Linda wouldn't understand what their problem was.

“I'm sure the two of you will work things out when she cools off. She has a hot temper when she doesn't get her way just like her father does.” Linda chuckled a little.

“Yeah.” Jennifer muttered and sat down at the round table. She was hoping that Alison would still be around that morning so she could talk to her. She knew that Alison's feelings were hurt but Jennifer couldn't help it. She loved her boyfriend and she didn't want to break up with him.

“Do you want to have a cup of coffee with me while we wait for Alison? I will make sure she brings you home its too far for you to walk. If she's gone for a long time I will give you a ride myself.” Linda told her thoughtfully.

Linda knew it wasn't like Alison to just take off like that. Even when they were fighting she would take Jennifer home, though she didn't ask what the problem was she knew that Alison had to be pretty mad if she stayed away knowing that Jennifer was there waiting for a ride home.

“Sure, that might help a little.” Jennifer gave her a small smile as Linda put a cup of fresh coffee down in front of her.

“I'm sorry she's acting like this. It must have been some big fight for her to take off this morning.” Linda didn't want to pry she was just having a conversation with her.

“I would tell you what we are fighting about but I am sure that she will get into trouble and I don't want that to happen.” Jennifer took a sip of her coffee, feeling the burning sensation of hot coffee going down her throat.
